Closing soon: significant drilling tender for QLD utility

The large pipeline projects on the Sunshine Coast both include significant lengths of trenchless construction.

These projects provide an exciting opportunity for experienced drilling companies to work with Unitywater to deliver critical network infrastructure for the growing community.

Ahead of the tender release, engineers from Unitywater identified large lengths of the proposed projects where Trenchless Technology would be the best option for construction.

Overview

Nicklin Way, Caloundra Project

This project includes the construction of approximately 2,470 m of OD900 mm PE100 sewer rising main on Nicklin Way.

Approximately 1,520 m will be installed using horizontal directional drilling (HDD) over two sections along the Nicklin Way located at Sugarbag Road (990 m) and Seagull Avenue (530 m).

In addition to this, two 60 m pipelines will be installed under Caloundra Road using microtunnelling.

Mountain Creek Project

The Mountain Creek project will see the installation of 3,260 m of OD900 mm PE100 rising main from north of the Mooloolah River through to the Kawana Sewage Treatment Plant.

Work will include the use of HDD to install a pipeline section totalling approximately 1,690 m.

The alignment includes an 890 m and a 350 m drill under separate sections of Mooloolah River, and a 75 m line under Kawana Way.

This 75 m length will be installed using microtunnelling.

Key information

This tender opportunity is for two large trenchless projects on the Sunshine Coast including approximately 5,730 m of OD900 mm PE100 sewer rising main.

At least 60 per cent of the project length will be constructed using trenchless methods.

A design and construct tender for the construction of approximately 5,730 m of OD900 mm PE100 sewer rising main is now available on the QTenders website hpw.qld.gov.au/qtenders

Tender applications opened on 18 March and will close on 10 May 2016.
