In June 2007 the Clear Harbour Alliance (CHA) was formed in New Zealand to improve the drainage network and to protect the environment. This was the first time that an alliance partnership had been undertaken in the New Zealand water industry, says CHA.
Contractors GHD, Opus International Consultants and Downer EDI Works, along with subcontractors JB Contractors, Marchcato Limited, Coast Digger Services Williams Contracting, Eyles Contracting and TDM Construction Limited, working for client Metrowater, have helped to reduce an estimated 70,000 m3 of wastewater pollution overflows from entering Waitemata Harbour, improving the water quality at Auckland City beaches and in harbour waterways.
An alliance partnership was adopted for two main reasons – efficiency gains and improved customer management. An article in the new Trenchless Premium takes a detailed look at the partnership and also covers the trenchless technologies employed on the project.
For a detailed case study about this wastewater project, involving the separation of the existing combined drainage system using microtunnelling and horizontal directional drilling, subscribe now to Trenchless Premium.
