Sewer Equipment Company Australia (SECA), one of Australia’s leading suppliers of equipment for the cleaning, testing, inspection and rehabilitation of sewers and drains will soon launch a new low budget lateral cutter very soon called the Micro Light Cutter by IMS Robotics. SECA has the exclusive sales rights for the German reinstatement cutters.
SECA held an open day in March to present the company’s new premises and show new products, which have been integrated in SECA’s range of products.
SECA General Manager Mark Quealy said that this new product is a reaction to the growing market demand for cutting equipment in the small pipe relining business. With cheaper cutter systems, smaller relining companies can now afford to compete with their larger competitors and offer their customers a wider range of services.
The system is a world first in the field of relining cutters. Based on an earlier model cutter, which has already been selling worldwide for many years successfully, the designers have developed a new low budget system with all the benefits of the earlier model cutter but which sells at less than the half of the price of the older system.
Mark Quealy said to interested customer, that this system is affordable and is the first choice to enter in the relining business for small pipes. An additional unbeatable benefit is the upgradeability to the professional system, which can climb and creep.
Why is the cutter unique?
Most low budget cutters in the market are controlled manually using a push rod system and are very hard to control when they have passed through bends in the pipe. This can make accurate lateral cutting a difficult or impossible proposition for the cutter operator.
Accurate cutting of lateral lines is essential in relining operations. Inaccurately cut laterals can allow tree roots and water infiltration to penetrate the sewer system and usually to stop these problems is the exact reason why the line is relined in the first place.
The swivel and rotation movement of cutting head is controlled electrically by a simple joystick. There is no opportunity to lose control, said the company. The working range is 75 mm up to 200 mm and the cutter is able to pass through 90 degree bends.
The cutter is locked into position in the pipe by an inflatable rubber bladder and is therefore also useable in vertical pipes. The air driven cutter motor engine is extremely strong, sufficient for all kind of liners and can also be used to remove strong obstructions such as concrete. There is a mounting for fixing your own push rod camera onto the Micro Light to enable the operator to monitor the cutting process.
Service and repair of the system is easy. The system has been designed by IMS Robotics with a range of easily interchangeable components to allow repair in the field in case of a breakdown limiting downtime for users.
After testing the product visitors at the open day remarked on the power and handling of the new cutter. As well as the robots SECA also displayed CCTV systems from iPEK, nozzles, cleaning trucks from Denmark, relining material from epros and some other useful equipment for plumbers.
Mr Quealy and the SECA sales team were satisfied of the response at this day, the interesting discussions and some promising inquiries.
