Stage One of the multi-million dollar infrastructure project to build and maintain efficient and effective sewer systems across the region began in 2010.
Council’s Water Committee (CWC) Chair Councillor Greg Belz said “The sewer relining program initially concentrated on 150 mm pipes in the Rockhampton area and critical pipe collapses and blockages in the Yeppoon area.”
This aspect of the project was conducted by Kembla Watertech using Trenchless Technology, which Mr Belz said has proven successful in reducing sewer main problems caused by blockages and water infiltration.
“Stage Two will address further problem areas identified by FRW to sewer lines with poor service histories and through the use of CCTV inspections,” Mr Belz said.

Cleaning and inspection using CCTV will be undertaken on 150 mm diameter vitrified clay pipe and concrete sewer mains in Rockhampton (89 km) and in Yeppoon (41 km). Pipes will also be relined in Rockhampton (16 km) and in Yeppoon (6 km) using a PVC no-dig structural lining system called Ex Method.
Kembla Watertech will use its trenchless relining technology again due to its practicality in providing ratepayers the best value, and minimising inconvenience to residents from the decreased need to dig up roads, footpaths and house yards.
Mr Belz said “FRW also has a separate budget of $A1.8 million for repairs to sewer mains, manholes and house junctions prior to relining works commencing in some areas.”
In June 2011 Kembla Watertech successfully completed relining of sewer mains under Rockhampton and Yeppoon ahead of schedule as part of Stage One.
