Such events give us various opportunities that we do not get unless specially organised. I seek to highlight a few of these:
- Exhibiting your company’s goods and services provides an opportunity for you to showcase your wares, but also gives the uninformed potential client an avenue through which to learn about trenchless products. It also gives the informed client the chance to update on new developments.
- The opportunity to hear excellent conference papers on various aspects of the trenchless industry keeps delegates up to date with local and international developments. These papers are delivered by an array of international keynote speakers and highly regarded local identities from the industry.
- The networking opportunities to catch up with fellow members of the trenchless industry. In addition to meeting new people within the industry you can catch up with fellow competitors and associates and discuss common issues and matters that cannot be done from within your own company.
- An opportunity for the Society to obtain feedback from its members. We are currently in the process of developing a suite of guidelines and standards for the application of various trenchless technologies, through external consultants. Draft forms of these will be presented at the conference for industry acceptance as an Australasian template.
All of the above is the basis upon which the Society was formed, and it is important to the Society to continue to promote such events. We are actively planning future ASTT conferences and exhibitions so that the trenchless industry can continue to promote itself to the wider community. Next year this will include Trenchless Live, an exhibition and conference designed to appeal to a broad audience – featuring live demonstrations of a range of trenchless products and machines. Trenchless Live will be held in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales from 17–20 October 2010.
In addition to the local events there are great international trenchless events. The next International No-Dig will take place in Singapore in November 2010 and this should be an event that will attract a number of ASTT members because of its close proximity.

I look forward to being able to meet with members at the National Conference and Exhibition.
