In addition to traditional open cut methods, the company has acquired and developed extensive expertise in the field of Trenchless Technology, successfully installing and renovating hundreds of kilometres of underground pipelines by non-disruptive trenchless methods for municipal and industrial clients and authorities throughout New Zealand. JB Pipeline Services is the Licensee for Insituform® Technologies in New Zealand.

The company has the resources to conduct complete project management or individual services on a consultancy or contracting basis for any pipeline requirement.

This capability includes the evaluation and assessment of water or sewer networks with regard to the possibility of renovation, independent design (including hydraulic and structural), management, supervision, water leak detection, water loss analysis, mains cleaning and CCTV surveying.

JB Pipeline Services recently completed a sewer rehabilitation project for the North Shore City Council in Auckland, New Zealand. The project involved CIPP lining, lateral junction repairs, public lateral lining, inspection, leakage testing and sealing of manholes, and the installation of new sewer pipelines by directional drilling, pipe cracking and open cut methods.

The diameter of the pipe being rehabilitated varied from 100, 150, 225 and 300 mm. The pipe was circular and had an approximate age of 100 – 120 years. The primary reasons for rehabilitating the pipe were to reduce infiltration and exfiltration and to achieve structural restoration.

The main challenges associated with the project occurred due to the fact that main lines were located in the backyards of houses and laterals had to be accessed through gully traps, which are used when access to laterals is poor and limited.

The project had a cost of around $A2 million and was completed over a 35-week period. In all, 215 branch connections were reinstated, and tests by the North Shore Council on the flow monitoring process, which indicates the efficiency of the Insituform® lining system, showed that the infiltration problem was significantly reduced.
