In keeping with their commitment to customer service and working with the customer to continually improve the product, Vivax-Metrotech is pleased to announce the launch of the new vCam Modular control module. This latest update replaces the previous vCam Digital and View modules.

As in the past this new module comes in two varieties, one that records and one that does not. Based on feedback from customers the company has incorporated a number of new innovations. Designing the units to be modular will help as the system becomes older and possibly requires servicing or repair.

The major improvements are mainly in the digital recording unit. The unit now has a 300 GB hard drive, meaning the operator can now choose to record to the hard drive or a USB stick. If the operator records to the hard drive they can chose to download to the USB stick or to the new high-speed SD card. This enables the operator to leave a copy of the job with the customer without the requirement to use another computer.

The vCam View has had all of the updates but does not have the recording capability. However, as with previous models, both the View and Digital Modular units have video in and video out.

All camera heads are equipped with a locating probe. This probe can be set at one of three optional transmission frequencies. The choice of frequency is made at the control module. The three frequencies are 512 Hz, 640 Hz and 33 kHz. The output of these frequencies is compatible with all standard locators.

There are still three reel types available: Type C standard reel (60 m push cable); Type P large reel (120 m push cable); and Type M mini-reel (30 m push cable). The 30 m Type M reel is available with 10 mm diameter cable for pipes of small diameter and several elbows; The Type P and C reels have 12 mm cable for pipes of larger diameter and/or large distances for steadier pushing.

The vCam CCTV inspection cameras are able to assist the operator every step of the way, says Vivax. Whether the system is used for survey and inspection or for the final inspection and approval after rehabilitation, the operator will see clearly and be able to show the customer the end results.

When using a CCTV inspection system it is necessary to identify where the camera head is located. One of the advantages of Vivax-Metrotech is they not only do inspection cameras, but also offer a comprehensive range of locators.

This may be to identify exactly where the blockage has occurred or where the pipe lining is deteriorating. The vCam camera head is able to send out one of three frequencies; however a receiver is needed for location.

Vivax-Metrotech has two available options; the vLoc CAM and the Easyloc CAM. The vLoc CAM is manufactured by Vivax and the Easyloc CAM is manufactured by Seba.

The vLoc Cam locator is for locating camera heads of push rod cameras and transporter systems. It can receive all standard active frequency ranges used by most manufacturers (640 Hz, 512 Hz, 33 kHz). In addition, the system can also be used for the simple location of cables and lines with passive power and radio.

The Easyloc CAM is the second version of a location system. This system has a choice of 640 Hz or 512 Hz and 33 kHz for camera heads and probes and also has passive power for simple location of cables and lines.

If at a later stage the operator wishes to expand the use of the locating system, it is possible to purchase a transmitter to create a full line locator.

There have been additional options added to the vLoc Pro range of locators. The operator is now able to specify Bluetooth and GPS. The final accuracy of the locate path depends on the type of GPS used, with accuracy from several metres to sub-centimetres possible.

If doing locate work where there is also the need to locate marker balls the company also offers a vLoc Pro model – the vLoc ML – which has a built-in collar around the base of the wand. This offers an easily transportable marker locator and standard locator in one easy package.

As part of the update to the CCTV inspection camera range the company has also launched the vCam LSR. This is a very flexible system based on the new type S reel and with a hand held camera viewer that has video out. This is a 20 m reel with 4 mm pushrod. It also has a built-in sonde and distance counter. The reel comes with a choice of 17 mm, 25 mm or 33 mm camera heads.

The vCam LSR is a handy supplement to the vCam range, developed in response to customer needs. The small size will allow the operator to gain access to many difficult areas.
