Drilplex is M-I SWACO’s latest generation of MMO products engineered to provide the cost-effective performance of the mixed-metal hydroxides used in past years.

The Drilplex system delivers an enhanced rheological profile and stability in a package that is easy to design, mix and maintain.

With the Drilplex system, M-I SWACO has given the industry a water-based drilling fluid which has unique viscoelastic properties that make it ideal for an array of applications. The fluid acts as a liquid under shear and as a solid when at rest, consequently hole cleaning and fracture sealing are excellent. The shear required to break the gels is well below conventional levels, so even though the fluid has unequalled solids suspension it still screens easily, even at high flow rates.

The fluid is mixed by simply combining the Drilplex viscosifier with pre-screened, high-quality bentonite and other commonly available drilling fluid additives.

Features of the Drilplex system include that it is a latest-generation MMO system, is highly shear-thinning, has an excellent HSE profile, is temperature-stable to 149°C, has exceptional hole cleaning and suspension and also has excellent ability to seal the high-permeability formations found in deepwater drilling and horizontal wells.

Not only this, but Drilplex is ideal for lost-circulation zones, unconsolidated formations, milling, high-angle and horizontal wells. It also has high rates of penetration, is cost-effective, minimises losses and reduces environmental impact.

Another product that is now available from ADG Global Supply is Rod Ease, a superior lubricant for HDD, coring, and rotary drilling.

Rod Ease lubricant mixes instantly and is not affected by water quality. For this product to deliver rod protection and reduce torque after drilling has started, consideration must be given to the number of rods and the amount of fluid in the hole.

Advantages of Rod Ease include that it prevents rust and scale, increases penetration rates, extends bit and mud motor life, increases mud motor efficiency, reduces wear on rods and equipment, maximises rig potential and steering control, and enhances the effectiveness of powdered drilling-fluid additives.

Rod Ease lubricant also reduces torque and drag, allowing the operator to use the drill rig to its full potential, meaning thrusts and pulls are at a minimum, and steering control is precise.

The lubricant is based on an environmentally safe technology that has proven effective in lubricating down hole consumables. This product has produced both bit-life and penetration increases of more than 25 per cent during drilling operations.
