The popular WaterNZ conference was held from 23-25 September 2009. Five trenchless contractors demonstrated various types of Trenchless Technology, including pipe lining, pipe bursting, manhole rehabilitation, non-destructive (hydrovac) excavation and CCTV pipe inspection.

The live demonstrations provided the opportunity for the delegates from the water and wastewater industry to see, close up, the latest technology in action. For many of the delegates, this was their first opportunity to learn about Trenchless Technology.

Steve Apeldoorn, Director of ProjectMax, Trenchless Technology Consultants, and the New Zealand Councillor for the ASTT said, “This is the second No-Dig demonstration we have organised in Rotorua for WaterNZ since 2007 and both have proven to be very popular events.”

Mr Apeldoorn said “These events are important for raising the profile of Trenchless Technology to a large representative slice of the people who make the decisions on infrastructure spending and provides a forum for our members to show off their capabilities.

“It is through these types of demonstrations and the high profile exposure of Trenchless Technology to other industry associations that enable trenchless methods to become more widely accepted and specified for new pipeline installations and rehabilitation in New Zealand,” he added.

The ASTT plans to increase its involvement in future WaterNZ conferences, including the possibility of a specific trenchless technical paper stream.
