Trenchless Technology - where do I start?
A problem for many people who are responsible for underground assets and want to use more No Dig technology is knowing where to start. The seminar will address in detail the options available for both new installations and rehabilitation of existing assets. Issues to be considered will include the costs of Trenchless Technology as compared to other options, the financial realities and planning that needs to be done, environmental issues and strategies for contracting as well as dealing with all the planning, regulatory, insurance and other legal issues that can arise.
Trenchless Australasia is lucky to have Chris Geehman Manager Major Projects & Renewals for South East Water Limited and the ASTT’s new Victorian Councillor as the opening speaker. Chris has more than 30 years experience in the industry and his biography is outlined on page 8.
Presentations and panels throughout the day will consider the issues affecting both new installations and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure.

Rehabilitation
A rehabilitation panel, including John Monro of Interflow and the ASTT’s NSW Councillor, Alan Sutton of Kembla Watertech and Dean Jones of ‘us’ Utility Services will present and discuss the various techniques available for rehabilitation as well as considering the issues affecting rehabilitation generally.
A paper considering the investigation works that need to be carried out before work can begin is also being arranged.
New Installations
HDD, microtunnelling, pipe jacking, pipe ramming, auger boring, which techniques are appropriate for which situations? A panel of some of the most respected and experienced trenchless contractors in the Southern Hemisphere will discuss the various options available and the issues affecting all contractors including contracting options, geotech information and reports, appropriate job specifications and more.
Stephen Barret of Golder and Associates will also present a paper looking at the geotech and other key considerations when planning, designing and constructing small HDD utility crossings.
Regional Focus
While the need for Trenchless Technology has been most strongly felt in Australia’s major cities, regional centres are facing an increasing need to rehabilitate their underground assets and the seminar will include advice specifically aimed at these areas. Attendance is encouraged from water boards and municipalities from all regional centres.
Dinner
You shouldn’t underestimate how much business you can get done, and how much vital information can be exchanged in a relaxed social setting. The networking dinner on July 11 will give all those involved in the trenchless industry a chance to catch up with old friends and colleagues, as well as providing those who are new to the industry the opportunity to meet people ahead of the seminar the next day. A special guest speaker is also being planned at the time of writing, with more details to follow soon.
