The 500 m long electricity submarine cable will be installed between Booker Bay and Wagstaffe and will improve the electricity supply for more than 1,500 homes and businesses in the surrounding areas.
Central Coast Area Manager Tim Wilcox said that the cable project would require one of the biggest-ever drilling operations across EnergyAustralia’s electricity network.
A HDD rig will be used to create a tunnel under the sea bed, and HDD contractors for this part of the project are currently being finalised.
The drilling site will be established at the corner of Petit St and Booker Bay Road, and will be in place for nine weeks.
“A pre-welded cable conduit will then be pulled through the tunnel, ready to be fitted with the final 11,000 volt cable,” Mr Wilcox said.
The environmental assessment has been completed for the $A5 million upgrade and work on the project is expected to start at the end of the month.
