Darwin’s wastewater evolution

Part of the $A80 million project to shut down Darwin’s Larrakeyah outflow will involve digging a tunnel under the Darwin CBD. A new sewer main will divert sewage to the Dinah Beach trunk sewer and then on to the Ludmilla Wastewater Treatment plant.

Macmahon Contractors has been awarded with the $A12 million contract to use microtunnelling in order to minimise above-ground disturbances.

The Northern Territory Government plans to shut down the Larrakeyah outflow by October 2011, with tunnelling commencing in September.
