Contracts on the way for sewer upgrade

The new 4.5 km sewer upgrade project will utilise microtunnelling in order to minimise impacts to Bulimba Creek and nearby vegetation.

The project is part of a $A3.2 billion capital works investment over the next decade.

Queensland Urban Utilities Chief Executive Noel Faulkner said “We will be investing $A268.9 million this year alone on maintaining and enhancing the current water and sewerage network, driven largely by population and housing growth”.

The project will help the existing wastewater network keep pace with projected population growth of around 40 per cent during the next five years in the suburbs of Rochedale, Drewvale, Calamvale, Stretton, Kuraby and Runcorn.

Stage One of the Bulimba Creek Trunk Sewer project will extend from Padstow Road, Eight Mile Plains, to Coora Street, Wishart.

Once completed, the project will ensure that the Bulimba Creek Trunk Sewer is more reliable and efficient and able to cater for the catchment’s growth and wet weather events.

Construction is expected to begin in February 2011 and take approximately 18 months to complete.

An expression of interest and tender process will begin shortly.
