Coburg to receive stormwater harvesting project

Yarra Valley Water Managing Director Tony Kelly said that the water utility is committed to delivering more sustainable water and sewerage services, and would be working with Moreland City Council and Melbourne Water to achieve this though the Coburg Stormwater Harvesting and Reuse Project.

It is expected that the recycled water pipeline will be approximately 1.5 km in length, with 100 mm diameter, 150 mm diameter and 225 diameter piping.

A spokesperson for Yarra Valley Water said that there should be some directional drilling in the pipeline’s construction and that tenders should be announced around June 2011.

As part of the proposed project, stormwater will be diverted from two existing Melbourne Water drains into a large underground storage tank which will be built under the McDonald Reserve, Coburg.

The project is estimated to cost $A12 million, of which half will be provided by the Federal Government.
