Perth cables to go underground

The $A3.9 million project involves installing underground power lines along Walcott Street, from Field Street in Mt Lawley to Green Street in Coolbinia.

Western Power will remove the overhead powerlines and install a new underground network.

Spokeswoman Miriam Borthwick said “The decision to underground the power along Walcott Street was made to protect Western Power’s network in this high traffic area and to ensure safe and reliable power was maintained.”

Meanwhile, Western Power has commenced additional directional drilling work as part of the State Underground Power Program in the suburbs of Attadale South, Balcatta, Maddington, Mt Pleasant North, Palm Beach and Wilson West.

The program, running since 1996, is aimed at providing underground power to households in Perth through State Government funding.
