Sydney Water completes major sliplining project

Sydney Water Managing Director Kerry Schott said the work was part of Sydney Water’s $A560 million SewerFix program to improve the sewer system and to protect public health and the environment.

“Repairs have been made to a 370 m section of sewer pipe, silt and debris has been removed, six maintenance holes have been repaired, and a new pipe over 340 m long has been installed inside the existing pipe.

“Work started in October 2010 and Sydney Water’s contractor, Eptec, finished the project last month,” Dr Schott said.

Dr Schott said that in rehabilitating the 100 year-old brick pipe, Sydney Water maintains an important part of its construction heritage.

Eptec worked closely with the Powerhouse Museum, the University of Technology Sydney, Sydney Light Rail, Sydney City Council, Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority, and Ausgrid to complete the works.
