The Ambit Engineering Salary and Contract Guide, which tracks the pay scales in over 130 job categories in the mining, oil and gas sectors, shows that pay rises of up to ten per cent have been given to engineering workers – notably senior project managers, project engineers, designers, document control and drawing office managers.
These increases continue a trend of steadily rising salary and contract rates, which have yielded overall pay rises of up to 20 per cent in the past year, according to Ambit CEO Peter Acheson.
“The most recent pay rises directly reflect the strong demand for resources sector workers in WA. In particular, as employers see demand for skilled workers grow in local and east coast markets, they are moving to lock in their key employees with incentive strategies that include pay rises,” Mr Acheson said.
With strong demand forecast to continue into 2012 and beyond, the resources sector will increasingly look to international skills markets for key talent, with Ambit already drawing on an international database in its recruitment of skilled contractors.
