Toowong Sewer Upgrade Stage 1 complete

Stage 4, which will be taking place on Lissner Street, is due to commence shortly, and will last approximately two months, weather permitting.

The $A5 million sewer upgrade is aiming to increase the capacity of the sewer system and to ensure it matches the pace of residential and commercial development in the area.

This project involves the underground installation of new sewer pipes via microtunnelling along Bennett Street from Lissner Street to Standring Street, under the railway line into Landsborough Terrace and along Sylvan Road.

Most work will be carried out via underground microtunnelling to reduce impacts to local residents, businesses and commuters; however, some open excavation will be required to connect the new sewer pipe to the current system.

Entry and exit shafts for the tunnel boring machine will be excavated at intervals along the project route, with work sites measuring up to a traffic lane in width and 40 m in length.

The entire project due to finish by September 2012.
