Works will include the installation of a 33/11 kV transformer, 33 kV circuit breaker, 33 kV disconnector, 11 kV switchboard, control building and associated protection, network monitoring and telecommunications equipment.
In addition, associated 33kV powerlines will be upgraded and underground 11 kV cables will be installed along Wireless Road and across Penola Road adjacent to the new substation site.
With design and planning well underway, site works are set to commence in July and are scheduled for completion by the end of November 2012
The new substation will provide load support for the existing Mount Gambier substations, allowing for future growth in the area and strengthening the local distribution network.
