The project was conducted along a proposed pipeline alignment that passed under the Bruce Highway and an adjacent creek.
UEA said that horizontal directional drilling (HDD) was chosen for the bore because the constraints of the highway interchange, the cost of traditional bore logging and the environmental area.
The bore took less than one day to complete.
Bore results showed a 20 m decomposed sandstone band close to the drill shaft and dense clay for the remainder of the alignment.
For the insertion of the carrier pipe, UEA said the results prove the viability of pilot tube microtunnelling, or utilising a laser guided boring machine (GBM).
The GBM pilot has since been successfully completed and work is currently underway inserting a 450 mm steel enveloper pipe and 300 mm polycrete carrier.
