K&D, which specialises in infrastructure services in plumbing and trenchless pipelaying, won the award based on successful implementation of three recent innovative safety practices into the company’s workplace.
The first initiative the award recognised was a web portal integrated management system (for Quality/Environmental and WHS). The management system is accessed by all field-staff in order to manage workflow, capture documentation and data from site, and to serve as a reference tool for up-to-date information like MSDS, project plans and company policies. All documentation is completed and available to clients in real time.
The second measure the award congratulates is the company’s use of social media for better safety practices.
K&D has created a “÷closed’ Facebook for safety consultation. This platform has been very successful for K&D staff; staff are able to interact to discuss safety issues on a forum they are comfortable using. It has served as a central point to discuss issues across the business, such as how employees are finding new safely initiatives.
The third undertaking recognised by the award was an SMS Safety Alert System K&D has established for tracking lone and remotely-located workers.
The award was presented as part of the Clarrie Wymer Awards held March 2013 at Carnarvon Golf Club, Lidcombe. Paul Tonks and Anjie Lees of K&D received the Award from Governor of New South Wales Marie Bashir.
