HDD helps secure water supplies

Wannon Water has been replacing the 2.5 km of ageing pipeline that transfers drinking water from the Port Campbell water treatment plant to customers in Peterborough and Timboon.

A spokesperson for Wannon Water confirmed that horizontal directional drilling was applied during stage one of the project to ensure private properties were undisturbed during the works.

Stage one of the project, which saw the first 1.5 km of the pipeline replaced, was completed within budget in September 2013.

Stage two of the works will complete the proactive pipeline replacement, ensuring the ongoing security of supply for the towns and catering for future growth.

Regional contractor R. Slater and Sons is currently undertaking the construction works, expected to be completed by June 2014.

Wannon Water also worked closely with Corangamite Shire Council, the Department of Environment and Primary Industries and the local community in planning the pipeline replacement works to avoid any significant impact on native vegetation during construction.
