Queensland Councillor’s report

The past quarter has seen a healthy start to the new fiscal year in the Queensland Trenchless Industry.

This increase is despite the slowing of the two major projects; Gold Coast Rapid Transit and Legacy Way.

These projects have required significant support from our industry, in the form of service relocations, to facilitate the works.

The increase in planned work has been mostly generated in the water industry by the following key authorities: Queensland Urban Utilities (QUU), Unitywater, Townsville City Council, Bundaberg Regional Council, Cairns Regional Council and Seqwater.

The planned works trigger Trenchless Technology in the form of relining, inspection, maintenance, augmentation and new infrastructure where open excavation has been ruled out due to site constraints and method feasibility.

QUU held their annual Industry Briefing and it was well attended by contractors, consultants and suppliers.

The briefing discussed their Capital Investment Plan for the next fiscal year and forecasted activity across the next five years.

This is a good initiative by QUU, offering mutual benefit to themselves and companies offering services and supplies.

This initiative is encouraged by the ASTT and we would suggest other organisations with large Capital Investment Plans to adopt a similar approach for mutual benefit.

Membership

In July the Australasian Society for Trenchless Technology (ASTT) promoted membership to encourage individuals and corporate entities to join.

The membership promotion reduces membership fees over the second half of the calendar year.

The ASTT welcomes the new members.

Queensland trenchless presentation nights

The Queensland Chapter of the ASTT plans to run quarterly presentation nights to communicate interesting trenchless topics and encourage networking.
