The project will be undertaken by SA Water contractor Fulton Hogan and will involve replacing a 2.2 km section of the main, and relining additional sections using trenchless methods.
SA Water are working with the Adelaide City Council, Department of Planning, Transport & Infrastructure (DPTI) and the Adelaide Botanic Gardens to ensure the rehabilitation project does not impact local residents and businesses.
Commercial & Business Development General Manager Jim McGuire said “To avoid works on the heritage-listed Hackney Road Bridge, SA Water is negotiating with DPTI on alternative options to cross the River Torrens. We are in discussions for our new pipe to be attached to a River Torrens pedestrian bridge proposed as part of the O-Bahn City Access project.”
“I am very pleased with the co-operation all parties have shown in making this [project] happen,” he added.
Project works are expected to be completed by mid-2016.
