Consultation opened for NZ state highway stormwater specifications

Gwydir Highway culvert renewal.

The paper was initiated in January 2015 after work to update the specifications supplied in the Technical Appendices of SM031 ‘State Highway Construction Contract Proforma Manual’. The specification has been drafted be the Transport Agency’s Environment and Urban Design team in collaboration with a group of internal and external experts with experience in the management of stormwater on state highways. As it stands, the paper sets out the design and construction requirement for all stormwater improvement projects on state highways. This includes:

  • Stormwater surface drainage
  • Collection and conveyance
  • Stormwater treatment
  • Cross drainage
  • Erosion and scour protection
  • Existing stormwater systems
  • Operation and maintenance.

The Transport Agency is seeking feedback on this draft specification before it is finalised and passed out to staff and suppliers. Feedback will close on 18 December 2015 and the final document will be prepared and published. To view the paper and provide feedback visit the specification survey page or send your feedback to {encode=”environment@nzta.govt.nz” title=”environment@nzta.govt.nz”}. The Transport Agency will also be holding a Transport and Stormwater workshop in Auckland on 2 December. The workshop will include information about two of the agency’s most recently commissioned projects. More information on the workshop is available here.
