The government also announced that the investigations have begun to potentially extend the rail network from Bankstown to Liverpool. Planning is already underway and at least six new metro stations have been confirmed: Crows Nest, Victoria Cross (North Sydney), Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street, and Sydney Central. The tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be used during Stage 2 of the expansion project, where it will excavate new twin 15 km rail tunnels from Chatswood to Sydenham. The expansion will cut travel times and will integrate existing underground stations additional lines, meaning customers won’t need to surface to changes trains.
