ASTT database upgrade
The ASTT is about to upgrade its 20-year-old database. This will affect you in that all tax invoices will now be sent directly by email, and you will now have the option to pay via PayPal. For members without an email address on file, tax invoices will be posted in the normal way. Obviously, it is imperative that you keep me informed if your email address changes.

Another advantage is that members now have the ability to maintain their company’s information that is shown on the ASTT website under “÷Member Services’.

Membership fee payments 2015
Next year’s membership fees will be emailed out in early December 2015 and membership fees will be due on 1 January 2015. All members are now encouraged to pay their fees using either PayPal or direct debit. The ASTT will still accept cheques as has been the practice in the past.

When making your payment, please ensure that either your membership or invoice number is included as a reference.

Members from New Zealand, please note that the amount shown on your invoice is in New Zealand dollars.

No-Dig Down Under 2015 – Gold Coast
The ASTT held its ninth No-Dig Down Under Conference and Exhibition at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre from 8-11 September 2015.

Firstly, I would like to thank our event sponsors for once again showing their support for the ASTT and the trenchless industry. The Event Partners for this successful event were Vermeer, HOBAS and Ditch Witch Australia. We also received Gold Sponsorship from Humes and Silver Sponsorship from Interflow.

The ASTT greatly appreciates these sponsorship commitments in assisting us with the promotion of Trenchless Technolo-gy throughout Australasia.

The event saw some 1,200 visitors attend the show over three days. The event officially began with an Oktoberfest-styled Exhibition Opening that was sponsored by HOBAS. The event gave delegates an opportunity to see the 76 booths on display.

On Wednesday night, delegates gathered for a boat cruise to an island a short distance from the Gold Coast. The event, sponsored by Vermeer, allowed delegates to network while being treated to a full Hawaiian BBQ buffet.

On Thursday evening, delegates gathered for the Ditch Witch Australia sponsored ASTT Gala Dinner, where those that attended enjoyed a sumptuous three course meal and were treated to entertainment by comedian and sleight of hand expert Jay Jay.

During the Gala Dinner the ASTT Award winners for 2015 were also announced. The winners, as listed below, feature in this edition of Trenchless Australasia:

Project of the Year – New Installation: John Holland’s Woolloongabba Trunk Sewer Upgrade.

Project of the Year – Rehabilitation: Interflow and Queensland Urban Utilities’ Rehabilitation of a critical selection of the S1 sewer.32.

New Technology: Abergeldie Watertech’s Scotchkote Liner 2400.

Person of the Year: Lance Horlyck of SAS TTI Joint Venture.

And finally on the Friday, the ASTT and NASTT conducted its inaugural in-depth training courses for individuals of the infrastructure industry. Produced by the North American Society for Trenchless Technology, and adapted for Australasian audiences, these courses provided attendees with a unique opportunity to learn from leading experts from around the world. These three courses were also well attended. These courses were the Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) Good Practices Course, the Horizontal Directional Drilling Good Practices Guidelines Course and the Trenchless Technology Short Course – New Installation.

And finally I want to thank Tori McLennon and her team from Great Southern Press for once again providing a wonderful event for the ASTT.

ADITC wins ISTT 2015 No-Award
The ASTT is pleased to inform all members that the ADITC has won this year’s ISTT’s International No-Dig award for Trenchless Technology in the category of academic research or training aid/course. The award was for the ADITC’s DICAT training courses: Trenchless (HDD) Edition – Horizontal Directional Drilling, Microtunneling & Auger Boring. Congratula-tions to the ADITC. Read more about this course on page 52.

Merry Christmas
In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to offer all of you on behalf of the ASTT a very merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.
