The early works include the relocation and protection of up to 150 utility services including electrical cable, gas pipelines, sewerage lines, stormwater drain and water mains.
Expressions of interest for the contract closed on 23 December 2015.
The Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA) is now reviewing the shortlisted respondents and will release a Request for Proposal in the coming weeks.
The full early works contract is estimated to be valued at AU$300 million and should be completed by the beginning of 2018 ahead of the start of major construction.
Geotechnical investigations on the Yarra River, which will be used to asses ground conditions and plan the route of two new metro tunnels, commenced in late-January.
