AU$11 million sewerage project uses HDD and case boring

Federal Budget supports rail projects.

With 33 km of pressure and gravity pipelines, the project will use horizontal directional drilling (HDD), case boring for some gravity pipes, and GRUNDOMAT soil displacement for the installation of shorter sections of pressure pipes.

In addition to this the sewerage project will see the installation of a new pumping station at Empire Bay, offering significant improvements to sewage services for the service area.

The completed network will deliver services to more than 300 unsewered properties in Empire Bay, Bensville and Kincumber South.

Initiated by Gosford City Council, the project has received an AU$4.7 million subsidy to complete works, resulting in a 40 per cent connection cost reduction for property owners.

The subsidy was given as part of the NSW Government’s Priority Sewerage and Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage program.

Gosford City Council’s CEO Paul Anderson said “The Cockle Bay area is a prime candidate for sewerage services due to the sensitivity of its local waterways and the critically endangered species which live in it.

“The project will also assist in protecting public health and the local oyster growing industry by ensuring the water quality of the surrounding environment is pristine and protected.”

Property connections are expected to be available from mid- to late-2016.
