Melbourne Metro attracts international interest

The rail network upgrade includes the construction of two 9 km rail tunnels and five new stations.

The project’s early works package had expressions of interest (EOIs) from several large international construction companies including Lend Lease Engineering, Acciona and Brookfeild Mutliplex.

With EIOs now closed, the shortlist for this package has been announced as:

    • CPB Contractors (formally Leighton Contractors)

    • John Holland KBR JV (composed of John Holland Group and KBR)

    • Lend Lease Coleman Rail JV (composed of Lend Lease Engineering and Coleman Rail).

The early works package is valued at approximately AU$400 million and involves the identification, protection and relocation of multiple underground services across the city.

Each of the shortlisted applicants has been asked to submit a formal proposal during the second quarter of 2016.

The final early work contract will be awarded in mid-2016, ahead of construction commencing in late-2016.

In conjunction with the shortlist announcement, the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA) released the following video project update.
