City West Water at work in Essendon and Mooney Ponds

Project works commenced on 29 March 2016 and are expected to take eight months to complete.

Anne Barker, City West Water’s Managing Director, said “These works will replace the old water mains with modern plastic pipe, limiting water leads and bursts in this part of the network.

“This project is part of a plan to invest AU$110 million over five years in water infrastructure replacement across inner and western areas of Melbourne – a program of ongoing upgrades that ensure our water supply network operates efficiently.”

The project commenced at the Waverley Street/Holmes Street intersection and will soon relocate to Lincoln Road for the second stage.

Work will then move south in phases, with each phase takin five-six weeks to complete.

Andrew Edwards, a representative of City West Water, will be speaking about the Waverley Street project at an upcoming ASTT Technical Forum on 7 April.
