Western Water commences HDD main installation

Mount Kynoch Water Treatment Plant

The 5.5 km water main will run alongside Leakes Road from the Melton Highway in Plumpton, under the Western Freeway and railway line to Station Street in Rockbank.

Most of the main will be installed into an open trench, but boring and horizontal directional drilling will be needed to go under the freeway, railway line, and through environmentally sensitive areas that are home to important flora and fauna species such as the Growling Grass Frog.

Western Water’s Graham Holt said “This major project will cater to the huge population growth expected in Rockbank over the next few years. With Rockbank’s population expected to grow to almost 20,000 by 2030, we are working closely with other government agencies to ensure this community is well-serviced.”

Project work is expected to be complete by November 2016.

The project is one of several planned by Western Water to service Rockbank, including a new sewer pump station and sewer mains.
