UVS supports EGWs rollout of SewerBatt technology

SewerBatt has been scientifically developed, using acoustic signatures to access the condition of drains and sewers, providing greater visibility of network serviceability.

The device can detect defects, breaks and blockages, and can record water levels, pipe length, pipe diameter, and the amount of sediment.

It can also navigate bends and blockages, and identify pipe junctions.

EGW purchased a SewerBatt unit in June 2016, following a number of trials of the technology.

UVS Trenchless General manager General Manager Eduardo Santos said “The SewerBatt technology provides new options for condition assessment of pipeline networks.

“CCTV is limited to visual only inspections, whereas SewerBatt provides objective digital data on the status of a pipeline by detecting blockages at the speed of sound. SewerBatt provides the opportunity to think differently about pipeline condition assessment.

“A strong application for SewerBatt is to quickly identify the clear pipelines so that CCTV inspection of these lines is not required and CCTV, jetting and other assets can be focussed on the blocked and problem pipelines.”

EGW has reported a reduction in the cost of pipeline condition assessments since the addition of SewerBatt to their network, and EGW Systems Support and Work Scheduler Steven Mowat said it had “identified several issues in our network that require attention.”
