Hosted at the James Cook Grand Chancellor on 19 May, the meeting recognised the growing need for support in New Zealand’s expanding locating industry.
Scheduling a Committee and General Meeting was considered an important step in showing NULCA is a professional organisation that is representative of the wider Australasian region.
The presence of Australian members and the majority of the Committee demonstrated its commitment to nurturing the New Zealand chapter while it is still in its early stages.
The Committee Meeting was attended by the majority of the committee members, as well as a healthy number of Australian members, and representatives from Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) and Pelican Corp.
The General Meeting featured 30 attendees, with an impressive turnout from New Zealand-based locators and interested individuals, combined with a mix of Australian members.
A range of topics were covered during the meeting, including a presentation for NULCA President Ian Lambert on the association’s history.
beforeUDig Country Manager Phil Cornforth explored its new service PlanAccess, an online service that manages and collates beforeUdig responses into individual job packs.
Finally, DBYD Queensland State Manager Paul Newman talked about the DBYD Certification, before the meeting concluded with a briefing on how New Zealand’s new Health and Safety at Work Act could affect the industry.
The strong attendance was seen as an indication that there is support for improved standards of training and practice in the local utility location industry, and that NULCA is well placed to have major role in developing the Australasian industry.
