Watercare announces Central Interceptor contractor shortlist

Britomart Station

The NZ$1.2 billion (AU$1.12 billion) Central Interceptor is a 13 km, 4.5m diameter wastewater tunnel that is designed to reduce combined wastewater and stormwater overflows to local waterways and the Waitemata Harbour.

The project also includes the construction of 4.4 km of link sewers, ranging in diameter from 2.1 to 2.4 m, and the construction of a terminal pump station.

After Watercare opened expressions of interest (EOI) for construction in October, the following four construction contractors have been shortlisted:

“All four groups have demonstrated that they have the ability and experience to deliver this project to the required standard, while adding significant value to the project,” said Central Interceptor Executive Program Director Shayne Cunis.

“We are looking forward to working with them on the next stage of the process and remain committed to meeting our timeframes for delivery of the Central Interceptor for the people of Auckland.”

Design and technical documentation will be released in March, and the Request for Proposal will be issued to the short-listed contractors in May.
