Rail Projects Victoria opens tunnelling training centre

The AU$16 million Victorian Tunnelling Centre – modelled on the Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy established in London, UK – will train local workers to deliver tunnelling projects across Victoria, including the Metro Tunnel Project.

The facility, which will be built hat Holmesglen Institute’s Chadstone campus, will feature a replica tunnel with full-height entrance, three multi-purpose engineering rooms and training facilities allowing work simulation and virtual reality experiences.

Holmesglen will offer both existing and new courses at the tunnelling centre, including Certificate and Diploma qualifications as well as safety-based training for working underground.

The centre is slated to be opened in 2019, and it is anticipated that up to 5,000 students will participate in the training courses each year by 2021.
