Project update: Forrestfield-Airport Link

Having safely installed more than 18,000 segments and completed 33 per cent of the route, TBM Grace has been fitted with new cutterhead teeth, with Sandy to receive the same treatment in the coming weeks.

The machines are now tunnelling between Airport Central and Redcliffe Station, so tunnel one has been closed between the Airport and Forrestfield for the construction of two new cross passages to start.

Microtunnelling works

At the 400 m long dive structure in Bayswater – forming the entry and exit point of the tunnels – more than 30,000 t material has been excavated so far.

The microtunnelling to install a main drain has also been completed, and a section of road along Whatley Crescent has been reopened.

Emergency egress shafts (EES)

The three emergency egress shafts along the alignment of the tunnel are now well underway, with the EES near Abernathy Road now poured and set to begin staircase, lift shaft and ancillary building construction.
