As part of a AU$12 million upgrade of the North Le Fevre sewer network, SA Water has contracted Fulton Hogan to install 4.5 km new sewer main using HDD.
The new pipeline will connect the Largs North Wastewater Pump Station, currently under refurbishment, with the Ethelton Pump Station.
The new pipeline is planned to run under Narkunda Street, Jetty Road, Mead Street, Semaphore Road, Causeway Road, Bower Road and Bartley Terrace.
“This overall project is focused on ensuring our network can support future growth in the area,” said SA Water Senior Manager of Customer and Community Engagement Tara Hage.
“To do this, we need to make some changes to our infrastructure to increase capacity, so it can continue to provide a reliable sewerage service.
Ms Hage said the project would improve odour management, overflows and help meet the demand created by urban development in the area.
“Together with our contractor Fulton Hogan, we’re committed to minimising construction impacts on both residents and commuters, and are working hard to manage any odour, noise or environmental requirements associated with the project,” she said.
“The new pipeline is being installed using a construction method known as directional boring.
“It requires less excavation than open trenching and therefore has less impact on people living in or travelling through the area.
“The majority of work is being carried out during weekdays, however some night and weekend work may be required.”
The project is anticipated to be finished by mid-2019.
