Water mains in Fremantle set for renewal

The utility is currently assessing bids to appoint a preferred contractor to carry out the work after the bidding stage ended in February this year.

Once a bid has been awarded, Water Corporation will inform businesses and customers likely to be impacted, as well as release details on contractors and the scope of the works.

Works include locating underground services, laying new pipes, pressure and water quality testing, and connecting the new pipes to the water network.

For the pipeline installation, contractors will use a combination of open cut excavation and trenchless sliplining, with the new pipe threaded between two openings, without the need to dig up the whole road.

Locations where pipes will be replaced include Essex Lane, Pakenham Street and Marine Terrace.

Water Corporation has been replacing ageing water mains across Perth since July 2016 in order to improve water reliability and prevent future leaks.

This year’s construction will run from April through to the latter stages of the year, with teams currently working in the area to locate services before construction begins.
