DBYD assesses more than 50 locators

According to DBYD Certification Ltd (DCL), it has conducted 51 practical assessments this year, a significant increase compared with the same time last year.

During the same period, DCL also delivered its Pre-Excavation Management Course to 184 construction personnel in South Australia, Victoria and Queensland.

This course covers the requirements and regulatory obligations of locating and identifying subsurface utilities for site managers; health safety and the environment managers; supervisors; and leading hands on construction sites where proposed excavation work is to be carried out.

The course covers legislative obligations and introduces techniques and procedures to enable participants to make informed judgements before excavating around subsurface utilities.

DCL was established in response to asset owning members of DBYD voicing their concerns at the inconsistency of skill sets associated in the locating sector, increasing the possibility of damages to infrastructure assets and networks, as well as the risk of serious injuries to workers or the general community.

Certification includes a rigorous assessment for locating, containing theory and practical elements.

According to DCL, it now has 728 Certified Locators registered across Australia.
