ASTT Training Courses increasing trenchless knowledge

Originally developing by the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT), the ASTT has licensed the training courses and adapted the material for Australasian audiences.

CIPP Good Practices Course

Instructor: Chris Macey, AECOM North America

Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) is one of the most widely used and accepted pipeline rehabilitation methods. It is cost-effective, increases flow capacity and significantly reduces infiltration and exfiltration. This course provides an in-depth overview of wastewater mainline and lateral pipe rehabilitation using CIPP, and covers everything from planning and design, through to job completion.

The course is best suited to council, utility and government employees, asset managers seeking new knowledge of rehabilitation techniques, and young professionals working in the trenchless rehabilitation subsector.

The training will be presented by CIPP expert Chris Macey, who was recently inducted into NASTT’s Hall of Fame. Mr Macey is internationally recognised as an expert on the field of trenchless relining and has been involved with the method since it was first introduced in the 1970s.

HDD Good Practices Guidelines Course

Instructor: Ben Crosby, Bamser and ASTT Queensland Councillor

The Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Good Practices Guidelines course provides an in-depth overview of HDD. It covers six topics: (1) operation and application; (2) equipment and materials; (3) planning, including surface and geological investigations, utility surveys, bore planning, and regulations and permitting; (4) jobsite safety; (5) risk reduction, troubleshooting and mitigation; and (6) design.

The course is best suited to council, utility and government employees, civil and geotechnical engineers, beginner drillers and young professionals working the trenchless installation subsector.

New Installations Methods Good Practices Course

Instructor: Blair Telfer, Interflow New Zealand and ASTT New Zealand Councillor

This course addresses numerous commonly used trenchless techniques to install new pipe and conduit, including auger boring, pipe ramming, microtunnelling, pipe jacking and pilot tube methods.

The target audience is contractors, municipal and utility employees, consulting engineers, inspectors and industry practitioners.

The course will identify the trenchless methods used for grade and alignment control and guidance, and the limitations and advantages of each method. The history, sizes, equipment options and process of excavating through different ground types, pipe materials and ways to track where the pipe is located underground.

Registration for these one-day training courses is available from AU$490 for ASTT Members and AU$590 for non-members.
