As part of the new system, Sydney Water will appoint a new consortium which will be responsible for design, construction and maintenance facilities management across the organisation’s entire operations for the next 10 years.
The work will be divided geographically into north, south and west sections.
Additionally, Aurecon and ARUP have entered into long-term partnerships with the utility to form an integrated systems planning team that will also perform technical assurance and project engineering.
With new requests for tender currently being sought for pipes and fittings, and valves and actuators, and more to follow in the coming months, Sydney Water Head of Supply Chain and Property Xavier Decomps said the group’s new shared purchasing approach would simplify how it procures goods and services.
“By pooling our purchasing in this manner, we’ll achieve economies of scale, increase our buying power and develop deeper relationships with preferred suppliers throughout the entire asset lifecycle,” he said.
Sydney Water has also adopted the NEC4 suite of contracts, becoming the first major infrastructure company in Australia to do so.
The 14 NEC4 contracts reflect a commitment to procurement and project management developments to support changing user requirements, stimulate good project management and improve clarity and simplicity.
Sydney Water Head of Delivery Management Mark Simister said contract will offer significant benefits across a range of shareholders.
“The contract will help simplify our supply chain and deliver significant benefits to Sydney Water as an organisation, to our customers and to our partners, through increased efficiency, cost savings, continuity of work, resource availability and partner capability by incentivising high performance and increasing productivity,” he said.
The appointments of all three consortiums will be awarded by the end of 2019.
