Consortium wins $463M contract

Under the contract, awarded by the NSW Government, the Oxford Properties, CPB Contractors and Grocon consortium will build the new Sydney Metro City and Southwest’s Pitt Street Station as part of Australia’s biggest public transport project.

The station development will provide a 250 m long underground station at Pitt Street, running from Park Street to Bathurst Street, to connect the two station entries with new the retail and commercial facilities the consortium will also deliver.

The design and construct contract will generate revenue of approximately $463 million of revenue for the consortium.

Work on the new Pitt Street Station has already started, with waterproofing and lining of the tunnels continuing in the underground station caverns.

“This project continues CIMIC Group’s strong track record of providing important infrastructure to benefit communities and help to drive continued economic growth,” CIMIC Group CEO Michael Wright said.

The contract award follows a major tunnelling milestone, with tunnel boring machine (TBM) Mum Shirl achieving breakthrough at the Pitt Street location on 5 September following a journey through 600,000 t of rock to install 6 km of tunnel comprising 3,390 concrete rings.

The TBM is currently undergoing maintenance and will be relaunched towards Martin Place Station.

CBD Contractors, in conjunction with its joint venture partners, recently delivered the tunnelling and civil works for the Sydney Metro Northwest.

Work on the new contract will begin in 2020 and is expected to conclude in 2023.
