DM Civil has completed a complex project on Rottnest Island using trenchless technology to minimise disruption to the area.
In April 2019 DM Civil was contracted to construct a new wastewater pumping station (WWPS) and sewer reticulation in the main settlement of Rottnest Island.
The existing underground infrastructure of Rottnest Island consists of an accumulation of gas, electrical, bore water, potable water and communications assets; the alignment and depth of each system varies and does not conform to the regular standards of utilities installed on the Australian mainland.
DM Civil was awarded this contract due to its proven capabilities of working in such an environment without interrupting the service supply, as well as minimising impacts on the island’s tourist traffic and protected local wildlife.
This goal was facilitated by DM Civil’s suite of trenchless solutions for installation of the sewer main and an incident-free excavation for the WWPS, which is now operational.
DM Civil was also contracted to upgrade the pressurised fire main as a further scope of works due to its trenchless capabilities.
The project is on track, meeting the quality scope and causing minimal disturbance to tourism, wildlife and existing infrastructure.
It is expected to be completed within the next month.
