Located in the Northern Rivers region of NSW, Ballina’s environmentally sensitive location and the sewer rise main’s location underneath a main road into a difficult to access swampland meant there was limited accessibility to the pipeline.
Considering the condition of the main remained uncertain due to its location, the Primus Line® system was chosen to preventively renovate the main to mitigate any risks.
Initially, a bypass line was installed so the existing sewer main could be drained, followed by cleaning the main by using water jetting and pull through rubber discs.
After the cleaning, 505 m of Primus Line® System DN 400 PN 18 and the corresponding end fittings were installed in a singular working day.
To ensure that the newly installed Primus Liner is always filled with water, a non-return valve was installed at the low point after the pump station.
This rehabilitation of the host pipe – made of a DN 375 asbestos cement material – will allow for the Ballina Shire Council to continue to use the main for the transport of residential wastewater.
The council assigned the rehabilitation process to Primus Line’s local partner company Interflow.
