In May, the second TBM – dubbed Alice – was assembled and commissioned at the Anzac Station site before being launched and joining Millie, the first TBM.
TBM Millie has been tunnelling towards the Eastern Portal in South Yarra, with the tunnelling support site at Edmund Herring Oval now operating at capacity to filter and remove the excavated soil received from the TBMs.
TBM Millie has completed more than 100 m of tunnelling while TBM Alice is currently moving at approximately 10 m per day, lining the tunnel walls with pre-cast concrete segments.
Metro Tunnel said the TBMs will continue tunnelling through the rest of June and into late 2020.
Due to works taking place 24/7, Metro Tunnel said its project team will make every effort to continuing minimising its disruption and informing local residents and businesses of its movements.
