Brisbane pipe receives $4m facelift

Works are nearing completion on the relining of a 2.2 km section of the pipeline under Ann St from Newstead to Fortitude Valley.

Urban Utilities Spokesperson Michelle Cull said the 130-year-old pipe was a key player in Brisbane’s water network, pumping water to homes and businesses in and around the CBD.

“Every day the city and surrounding inner suburbs use about 25 ML of water – that’s the equivalent of around 10 Olympic-sized swimming pools,” she said.

“This project will extend the operational life of the pipe by at least 50 years.”

The original pipe will be relined using the Primus Line to minimise disruption to traffic and the community by inserting a liner into the existing pipe, negating the need to dig up large sections of the road.

Works are expected to be finalised in February.
