WestConnex makes strong progress

The M4-M5 Link Tunnels is the first stage of the M4-M5 Link, comprising the construction of the M4-M5 Link Tunnels between the new M4 at Haberfield and the M8 at St Peters and stub tunnels to the Rozelle Interchange.

This stage is being managed by WestConnex and Transurban, with an announcement in September 2020 stating the final and most crucial stage of the M4-M5 Link Tunnels project had reached its halfway milestone.

Now, WestConnex has released an interactive map to allow for ongoing updates of the tunnelling progress.

WestConnex said with 28 roadheaders excavating across the project, there has been approximately 11 km of tunnel excavated and more than 4 million t of spoil removed to date.

“There are around 1,000 people currently working tirelessly to complete the project, which will provide a link between the M8 and New M4 Tunnels, as well as connecting to future projects including the Rozelle Interchange, Western Harbour Tunnel and Sydney Gateway,” said WestConnex.

The M4-M5 Link Tunnels are planned to open in 2023.
