Cross River Rail concrete on track

Cross River Rail reported more than half of the 25,000 concrete segments required to line the twin tunnels beneath the Brisbane River and the central business district have been produced.

The segments are loaded into the project’s TBMs, which installs them in rings of six as they move along with tunnel, with each ring made up of six segments.

TBM ‘Else’ has so far installed about 650 rings while TBM ‘Merle’ has installed around 400 rings.

A total of 4,157 rings are required to line both tunnels, and more than 105,000 mwill be used to create the segments.

These segments are manufactured at Wagners Precast facility at Wacol before they are transferred to Cross River Rail’s Woolloongabba site.

Each project TBM weighs 1,350 t, is 165 m long and is moving at a rate of about 20-30 m each day.
