$2.4m Hobart pipeline replacement underway

TasWater has commenced work upgrading one of Hobart’s major water distribution pipelines.

A 370 m section of the Claremont trunk water pipeline that runs along the Brooker Highway in Berriedale will be replaced in order to ensure water supply to the Tolosa Rervoirs.

“Constructed in 1962, the large 571 mm diameter mild steel cement lined pipe will be removed and replaced in 12 m sections,” said Capital Delivery Office Delivery Manager Chris Le Grange.

“The renewal of this pipe which is the primary source of water in the Glenorchy area, will increase the reliability of water supply and significantly reduce unplanned service interruption.”

TasWater said there were no planned road closures for the Brooker Highway; however, traffic management and a partial road closure would be in place when the pipeline is replaced under Berriedale Road.

“We’re working with the Glenorchy City Council, the state government and impacted residents to ensure minimal disruption while this important work is undertaken,” said Mr Le Grange.

The project is due for completion in September 2021.
